DaSheng’s Journey From Fragility to Strength—How Compassion Transformed a Tiny Kitten

DaSheng’s journey began in a way no one could have predicted.

It was June 2021 when a tiny, helpless kitten was found in the crevice of some rocks. His eyes hadn’t even opened yet. The rescuer, unsure of where to turn as the local veterinary clinic was closed, took DaSheng home, starting the long road to recovery. For the first few days, all that was needed was the most basic care: bottle-feeding him, providing warmth, and helping him relieve himself by hand.

He was suffering from eye infections and required antibiotics, but even at such a young age, there was a quiet determination in his tiny body.

The First Days: Fragile Yet Hopeful (June 2021)

Day 1-2: DaSheng was a tiny, fragile kitten with eyes still closed, lying still in the rocky crevice where he had been abandoned. It was a situation that demanded immediate action. With no clinic available, the rescuer did what they could at home, nurturing DaSheng with milk and offering constant care. Every action, from hand-feeding to assisting with his hygiene, showed a deep commitment to a tiny life who still had so much to give.

Day 7-15: Within a week, DaSheng began to open his eyes, his tiny ears slowly standing up. The once-defenseless kitten began to show signs of independence, learning to use a litter box for the first time. His first bath came just after two weeks—DaSheng, though a little nervous, was surprisingly cooperative. His resilience was beginning to show.

The Growth Phase: Learning, Playing, and Bonding (Day 26 – Day 215)

Day 26 – Day 100: As DaSheng’s body grew stronger, so did his personality. By this time, he was confidently walking, learning to roll over, and playing with toys. His attachment to his human became evident, as he started sucking on fingers for comfort and followed his rescuer everywhere. At around two months, DaSheng was introduced to wet food, gradually moving to dry kibble. His bond with his caregiver deepened as they spent quiet moments together—sometimes sleeping side by side or watching videos on the phone.

Day 100 – Day 215: As DaSheng reached three months, he became more social and even made friends. He was sent to stay with a friend of the family for a few days, where he met another cat. This was a key step in his development, as it helped him build confidence and social skills.

From Playful Kitten to Strong and Hungry Cat (Day 260 – Day 300)

Day 260 – Day 300: DaSheng had become an energetic and affectionate cat, with a noticeable love for food—especially eggs. Though playful, he was always obedient, even when tempted by meat hanging in the house. Instead of indulging, he switched to nibbling on cat grass when reminded.

A particularly endearing habit of his was “guarding the door” while his human showered or went to the restroom. Always wanting to be close, he followed his human everywhere, staying in their presence every moment. By day 300, DaSheng had transformed from a small kitten into a “chubby kitten” with a full, round belly.

A Milestone: Moving Forward (Day 400)

Day 400: A year after his rescue, DaSheng faced another important step in his life. He was brought to the vet for neutering surgery. The procedure went well, though DaSheng was initially a little disoriented and had to wear an Elizabethan collar. Despite this, he recovered quickly and was soon back to his playful, affectionate self.

DaSheng’s journey is one of hope, persistence, and love. From a fragile kitten found in a crevice to a strong, playful cat, he proves that no matter where you begin, love and patience can guide you to where you belong.
